Wildlife Protection

EFI supports critical efforts to safeguard vulnerable and endangered species across land, ocean, and freshwater ecosystems. Our partners work on the frontlines of conservation to protect wildlife through science-based research, habitat protection, anti-poaching initiatives, rescue and rehabilitation, and community-driven coexistence programs.

From majestic elephants and apex predators to critically endangered marine mammals and culturally iconic birds, EFI invests in species that are often overlooked and urgently need support.

Why Wildlife Protection Matters

Protecting wildlife is foundational to healthy ecosystems — and essential for cultural heritage, ecological balance, and long-term community resilience. EFI’s support helps stabilize vulnerable populations, reduce human–wildlife conflict, maintain biodiversity, and ensure that future generations inherit a planet rich with life.

EFI’s wildlife protection work includes:

  • Elephants in Sri Lanka — preserving migration corridors, reducing human–wildlife conflict, and protecting one of the world’s most threatened elephant populations.

  • Predators in Kenya’s Maasai Mara — supporting the long-term survival of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas through monitoring, research, and community collaboration.

  • Philippine Eagles — protecting rainforest habitat, strengthening rescue and rehabilitation programs, and supporting conservation breeding for one of the world’s rarest raptors.

  • Sharks in Indonesia — helping coastal communities transition away from shark fishing through ethical ecotourism and alternative livelihoods.

  • River Dolphins in South America — safeguarding Amazonian pink dolphins and coastal marine mammals through habitat conservation and community ecotourism.

  • Vaquita — supporting essential monitoring and emergency protection efforts for the most endangered marine mammal on Earth.

  • Sea Turtles in Mexico — protecting nesting beaches, rescuing stranded animals, and supporting community-based conservation.

  • White Abalone Recovery in California — helping reestablish a nearly extinct marine species through research, restoration, and hatchery programs.

  • Animal welfare and coexistence efforts — from ending the dog meat trade in Cambodia to supporting spay/neuter initiatives in Tijuana and Baja that reduce suffering and strengthen community health.
