Project Hiu

Indonesia has the highest rates of shark catch in the world, threatening a population that has already decreased by 70 percent over the last 50 years.

Project Hiu provides an alternative livelihood for the shark fishermen of Lombok by providing a less dangerous, more reliable, and higher source of income through ecotourism and shark research. 

Project Hiu also invests in community initiatives including clean drinking water, education, and women’s health programs.

By placing local communities at the heart of conservation, Project Hiu demonstrates that lasting marine conservation is only possible when the people who depend on the ocean are empowered to become its greatest protectors.
