Environmental Education & Youth Engagement

EFI invests in programs that educate, inspire, and empower the next generation of environmental stewards. Our partners create hands-on learning experiences, deliver community science programs, and build opportunities for young people to connect with nature and understand the ecosystems that sustain them. By strengthening environmental literacy, EFI helps ensure that conservation values endure well into the future.

From farm-based learning and biodiversity workshops to youth journalism and pollinator education, EFI supports initiatives that cultivate curiosity, leadership, and responsibility for the natural world.

Why Environmental Education Matters

Environmental education lays the foundation for lasting conservation. When young people learn how ecosystems work — and how communities rely on them — they become powerful advocates for change. These programs build ecological awareness, strengthen community identity, and foster long-term resilience by equipping the next generation with the knowledge and tools to protect their environment.

EFI’s environmental education & youth engagement work includes:

  • The Ecology Center in California — providing immersive farm and nature-based education that teaches children and families about sustainable agriculture, ecological systems, and regenerative land stewardship.

  • Mongabay Kids (Wild Guardians) — inspiring children around the world through accessible, science-based storytelling that connects young learners with wildlife, conservation challenges, and real-world environmental solutions.

  • Xerces Society’s Pollinator Programs — educating communities, landowners, and youth about the importance of pollinators, providing resources for habitat creation, and promoting bee- and butterfly-friendly practices in local landscapes.
